Goodbye
​
Will you be sad to see me leaving
Or just glad to see me go?
Will you mourn for the pain I couldn’t hide
Or the love you couldn’t show?
Was it loss of understanding
Or simple lack of trust?
The things we never could explain
Were those we knew we must
And if you’d only known me better
You’d have known I didn’t care
But the questions that we longed to ask
Were those we’d never dare
And if we hadn’t been so willing
Just to look the other way
Then we might have seen it coming
Just in time to save the day
The panacea of all ills?
The curse of mortal man?
The dreams we’re offered to believe
Are those we never can
Was the myth just misdirected
Or the truth misunderstood?
The answers that we longed to find
Were those we never could
