Teenage "Maybe's"

Maybe mummy will neglect you
Maybe friends will just reject you
Maybe daddy won't accept you as his own
And will Sunday School seduce you
Condition and reduce you
To a carbon-copy hero
In the world of the clone?
Maybe love will never find you
Like the fearful fiend behind you
You'll be shadowed by the one you'll never be
Maybe anger will devour you
As the world seems to shower you
With misfortunes and misgivings
Who's causes you can't see
Maybe nothing will impress you
Or the anger just caress you
Into giving up your principles
And accepting all your told
Maybe outrage will invade you
Overcome you and parade you
For the pleasure of the few
Down their streets of pseudo gold
Maybe shame will apprehend you
Will it blame you or defend you?
Will it force you into action
Or just lock you in for life?
Hypocrisy may mock you -
Will it stupefy or shock you?
Will it force you to retreat
Or will it make you stand and fight?
But the time will surely chase you
Take your best years and then face you
With the balance of the good times
And the days of hurt and pain
As you make your last inspection
Will you pass it on reflection
On the chances that were taken
Or the ones that never came?
